DISCUSSION
A gpf (general protection fault) error in dibeng.dll occurs when launching a GL application on a system with an ATI Rage II video card. The dibeng.dll (Device Independent Bitmap Engine) is used by video drivers. The following is from ATI's web site:

"A small number of older versions of applications written using the Windows 3.x 16-bit model had "hooks" directly into the display driver. You may find that these applications will FAIL when attempting to access our newer 32-bit driver components"

NOTE: This may not be isolated to ATI video drivers.

RESOLUTION

Any of the following may resolve this issue:
  • Check the website of video card manufacturer and see if there is a known issue with the video drivers and get drivers that will resolve the problem. In some cases, the most current drivers will not fix the problem.
  • See if there is an update to the application.
  • Go to Exceed, Xconfig:
Screen Definition set the Server Visual mode to pseudo-color and under Performance try adjusting the drawing settings
  • ACTION
